Alec Catherwood studied and received an BMus, MMus, from the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago. He was first violinist with Orchestras in Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Grant Park Symphony of Chicago. He was Assistant Concertmaster and soloist with the Kansas City Philharmonic. Mr. Catherwood was Concertmaster and soloist with Saginaw Symphony and was concertmaster with the Lansing Symphony, New Jersey Ballet Orchestra,Virginia Festival of the Performing Arts and Midland Symphony, Michigan. First violinist of two quartets: Cosmopolitan in Kansas City, St. Andrews in Michigan. Professor of violin at Central Michigan University (9 years)

Many former students in US and Canadian orchestras. He has appeared frequently as a recitalist and soloist throughout the Miid-West and Eastern United States and across Canada.

Concerto soloist in Orchestra Hall - Chicago. He appeared on the Chamber Music Series on WTTW-TV,Chicago. Was Professor of violin at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario and the Conductor of K-W Youth Orchestra. Studied with Steven Staryk; Paul Rolland (American Counterpart to Suzuki); Eric Rosenblith, Hartt Conservatory and Noumi Fischer, Los Angeles

Most recently, Alec played with the Hamilton Philharmonic as Assistant Concertmaster in one of their "Elegance Series" concerts. In 2009 Alec performed with the Hamilton Philharmonic, the Windsor Symphony and KW Baroque Concert. He has performed for many years with the Stratford Festival Orchestra.

Alec has been teaching at the Beckett school since 1985.
