Shannon Rutherford is a pianist, piano and theory instructor and adjudicator.  She has worked with a wide variety of students, ranging in age from 4-64, from beginners to advanced, who represent a large variety of abilities and interests.  She is currently teaching at Beckett School at Laurier where she has maintained a full studio for the past 6 years.

Shannon understands that each child is unique and tries to make the lesson suit their learning style.  Lessons incorporate a range of musical styles, genres, theory, games and technology.   Many of her students have gone on to complete RCM exams with excellent results in both piano and theory.  She also encourages her students to perform in local festivals as well as the studio recitals she hosts twice a year.  Her primary concern is to foster a love and appreciation of all kinds of music in her students and believes that music education is a key component in a child's well-rounded education.

Shannon holds an Honours Bachelor of Music (BMus) from Wilfrid Laurier University, where she studied with Elaine Lau. Shannon has also completed her Grade 10 piano and theory requirements from the Royal Conservatory of Music and is a registered teacher with the RCM.

She is currently living in the Kitchener-Waterloo area with her husband, son and daughter.
