Stan Elliotson
Stan Elliotson
A graduate of Barrie Central Collegiate Band, UWO and UT, Stan Elliotson has taught both in schools and his own private studio for a combined tenure approaching forty years. Over those years, his bands, chamber groups, and soloists have garnered many first awards at festivals, and have earned many honours, including 5 silver medals with the Royal Conservatory of Music. His goal is not to make professionals from his students, but rather happy and responsible users of the artform. But if we work hard, good things will happen, and we develop a sense of worth through our efforts in music.
Though trained in education, he also enjoys performing. Over the years he has been principal trumpet of the East York SO, guest soloist with the Huronia SO, has played in most kinds of band from symphonic, big swing, dixieland, rock, polka, and on a part-time basis has played over 1700 church services of one kind or another from Vancouver to St. John's including youth services to Canadian visits of the Pope and other primates, and tv shows. Most recently, he is co-founder, trumpet soloist, and president of the new Orangeville Community Band, and maintains a more relaxed schedule of freelance solo work.
Stan and Darlene, his wife of thirty years, live in Orangeville, and homeshooled their five children, all accomplished pianists and brass players. Among his hobbies are sailing and attempting to complete his second home construction project.
