Early Childhood Music Provider

The Beckett School at Laurier is seeking an instructor for their Early Childhood Music Program. Students are immersed in singing, playing, listening, and movement activities, and range in age from infants to eight-year-olds. Therefore, applicants are expected to have extensive experience teaching pre-school and primary level children, and should be prepared to describe how to provide a nurturing and engaging learning environment for these young students. Using their own voices as their first instrument, as well as rhythmic and melodic instruments, students actively discover musical concepts such as beat, rhythm, melody and form. This development of music literacy skills lays a solid foundation for future private lessons. Therefore applicants should have training in voice and a variety of early childhood music education approaches. Family participation is a vital component of this program. Grown-ups and siblings are invited to join in the final 10 minutes of each 45-minute class to allow for continued enjoyment and practise of class activities at home. Classes run for 30 weeks from September through May.  Please send a resume and cover letter to Susan Brown at sebrown@wlu.ca
